Verdict : AVERAGE
2.75/5
Story, Screenplay & Direction :
A deadly Bio-weapon that can destroy countries together lands in India and a Bio Scientist Govind (Kamal Hassan) comes to India to save the Bio-weapon, trying to go off from the hands of wrong people. After comming to India, Govind's life story, happenings and the facts about the Bio-weapon are the rest of the story.
Improper delivery of the story and less concentration on the script are the main backdrops in the film. Screenplay is inadequate for such a prestigious project. May be the public are impressed with the trailer, but not with the film.
Make-up and special effects are grateful. Mainly the make-up in close up shots are perfect. Highlight in the film is none other than special effects. First 30 minutes and last 15 minutes of the movie are filled with special effects that are really creditable. As a director, K.S Ravi Kumar is dummy. Except his appearance in the last song, no one identifies him as the director for the film.
Music : Bollywood 'Chakri' 'Himmesh reshammiya' couldn't entertain much. Devi Sri Prasad's background music is optimum.
Artists Performance :
Kamal Hassan : Kamal Haasan is considered among the leading actor of Indian cinema and he makes it true with this film too. Kamal's roles begin with 12th century Vaishnavite priest Rangaraja Nambi and then to nine current characters. His performance in each character is terrific with appropriate body languages.
Others :
Asin excelled her performance, mainly as the wife of Kamal Hassan in 12th century. Mallika Sherawat's role is so ..so.
How is the Movie ?
The film starts with a war between 'Vaishnavs' and 'Saivulu'. First 15 minutes of the movie meets with the standards of Hollywood, later drops down to the quality of Indian Cinema. The movie is not much interesting. However, one must appreciate Kamal for the hard work put into playing so many different characters to perform in many roles simultaneously at this age.
Technically the film is far superior to any other telugu movies in some scenes, particularly in the tsunami climax.
To watch this film, the audience must have a minimum knowledge on 'saivulu' and 'vaishnavulu' and about the hatred on each other. What is the necessity or compulsion of portraying Kamal in 10 different get ups? To create some mindless hype or register it as a record in the Industry? What is NACL? Why Tsunami in the end of the film?
These are reason less and highly idiotic.
If the crew would have concentrated more on the script, then Dasavatharam would surely be a magnum opus. Anyway's, 10 crores worth 'Dasavatharam' is far better than 60 crores budget 'Sivaji'.
Final Verdict :
With Kamal's name, One can watch 'Dasavatharam'. The film would go well with A Centers. And will surely be ruined in B & C Centers as they feel they are watching a Tamil movie with Malayalam dubbing. Finally, Watch this movie to see Kamal in 10 different avatars. But is it really enough to make a fan to watch a film? Lets See!
